His research subjects include the development of zeolites as catalysts and cover various aspects as synthesis, characterization and reactivity in acid bases and also in fine chemistry. Has also contributed to both, the theory and industrial practice of gasoline production and paraffins isomerization, resulting in a reduction of contamination indices.

His career centers on the biology of development, concretely on the study of the biological architecture of the Drosophila melanogaster fly. Thru the genetic study of this species, he tries to understand the biology associated with cancer and human ageing. At present, Ginés Morata is professor of Research at the Centro de Biología Molecular [Center of Molecular Biology] of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) [High Council of Scientific Research] in Madrid.

He is a distinguished researcher of the fundamentals of statistical mechanics and his most important scientific contribution is the generalization known as “nonextensive” statistical mechanics of the well-known Boltzmann-Gibbs theory. At present he is the head of the Centro de Estudios Avanzados [Center of Advanced Studies] of the Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas (CBPF) [Brazilian Center of Physical Research], in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
