He was born in Mexico City in 1944. Got his B:S. and Masters in Physics at the Facultad de Ciencias on UNAM (Faculty of Science) and his doctorate in Science of Materials in Case Western reserve University, Cleveland Ohio. Emeritus Investigator of the Instituto de Investigación en Materiales (IIM) of the National University (Insititute of Material Research)
He has been a pioneer in Mexico in the use of electronic microscopy in the field of materials, in research on memory of form in metals and in superplasticity. As a result of his research a new alloy called zinalco was developed, a biomaterial that was the source of a successful technological transference. He is also an distinguished investigator in zinc alloys and non ferrous metallurgy.
He has been the head of the Department of Metallurgy and Ceramic of the IIM and member of the University Board. Has belonged to several report commissions, among them in SIN, and of award, like the jury for the National Prize of Science and Arts and the Award of the National University. Member of the Consejo Consultivo de Ciencias de la Presidencia de la República (CCC) [Science Consulting Council of the President’s Office] and Editorial Advisory Board of Materials Science Foundations of the US.
He has received the Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes [National Award for Science and Arts]. He was the first Mexican to receive the award Manuel Noriega in 1984, given by the Organización de Estados Americanos (American States Organization) (OEA). He was awarded as well the Award Universidad Nacional; Researcher of the Year 1987 from the Sociedad Mexicana de Fundidores (Mexican Society of Welders); Award CONDUMEX.
Has tutored 51 theses in his field, 23 masters and 5 doctorates. He has been the organizer of several national and international congresses and editor of their respective memoranda. Has authored 7 granted patents in Mexico (4) ,Perú (2) and one in the European Community, and is the author of 101 articles of research. |
