His projects and academic life have been closely related to the priority issues of Mexico’s oil exploitation... He obtained a bachelor and a master's degree in Petroleum Engineering at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and received his Ph.D. in this area at Stanford University, California. He is currently a full professor at the UNAM and belongs to the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI) [National Researcher System].

Francisco José Sánchez-Sesma

His research focuses mainly on the propagation of seismic waves, particularly on the manner in which local topography and geological conditions affect the characteristics of earth quakes, their experimental verification and mathematical modeling. Is a graduate of the Facultad de Ingeniería [Faculty of Engineering] of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) [National Autonomous University of Mexico], where he earned with a Civil Engineering degree as well as the Master’s and Doctor of Engineering degrees.

He was born in Mexico City in 1938. He graduated as an electrical and electronic communications engineer from the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica [Higher School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering] of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN) [National Polytechnic Institute]. He obtained a master’s degree in physics at the Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas [Brazilian Center of Physics Research], and his PhD from the University of Sao Paulo.
